One Fat Cigar: Seeking a Film/TV Job ?

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

We thought it would be worth outlining how we hope to help those seeking a Film/TV Job. At this embryonic stage of our development we are proving the tools for up-and-coming talent plus those already in the film industry to promote themselves on the website but more importantly access to film makers and production houses who will be seeking crew for their film and television projects.

Here’s what you can do today on the website as a premium member (£10 (c.$15) per 3 months):

1. Upload a biography
2. Upload a headshot and showreel
3. Choose one of a full range of detailed film professions
4. View jobs and apply for vacancies
5. Promote yourself (and your projects) and contact other film makers who may have projects in development

By the Spring/Summer 2010 our plan is to launch our PRO membership and Production membership which will go much further:

1. Pro membership will be available to anyone who has an imdb credit or is featured on spotlight
2. Upload Agent/Management contact information
3. Recommend colleagues and get them to recommend you!
4. Have all credits confirmed and checked so that those posting jobs know you have a verified account
5. Apply and view paid professional jobs only, and therefore avoiding losing time filtering through positions that will not be suitable
6. Producers and Production Managers will be able to contact you regarding positions they may have available and jobs which match your set criteria will be delivered directly to your inbox
7. Production Houses will be able to contact other production houses around the world and recruit crews to man their projects -being recommended by their peers.

One Fat Cigar is now live! Search for film/tv job now

If twitter is your thing you can view any vacancies on movie jobs

Why these film makers were happy about their film being Pirated!!!

Monday, December 14th, 2009

When some film makers found out that their film, Ink, was available on the pirate website Bittorrent you would have expected them to be a little upset. They took a slightly different approach. Here’s what they sent out over email:

Dear Fans and Friends,

Over the weekend something pretty extraordinary happened. Ink got ripped off. Someone bit torrented the movie (we knew this would happen) and they posted it on every pirate site out there. What we didn’t expect was that within 24 hours Ink would blow up. Ink became the number 1 most downloaded movie on several sites having been downloaded somewhere between 150,000 to 200,000 times as far as we can tell. Knowing there’s absolutely nothing we can do about it, we’ve embraced the piracy and are just happy Ink is getting unprecedented exposure.

As a result, Ink is now ranked #16 on IMDb’s movie meter and is currently one of the top 20 most popular movies in the world.

This all started as a result of the completely underground buzz that you’ve each helped us create. We’ve had no distributor, no real advertising and yet the word of mouth that you’ve generated has made the film blow up as soon as it became available worldwide. So many of you came to see the movie multiple times, bringing friends and family and many of you have bought the DVD and Blu-ray from us. All of this built up and built up and suddenly it exploded.

We don’t know exactly where this will all lead, but the exposure is unquestionably a positive thing.

Ink hits Netflix, Blockbuster, iTunes and many more tomorrow! Remember to get your signed copies, t-shirts and posters at the Ink Store.

Thank you so much for the constant love and support.

All we can say is, what an awesome attitude to turn this theft to their advantage!

Top Ten Tom Cruise Films

Friday, December 11th, 2009

Again more debate in the office… this time on Tom Cruise – always the superstar and always in blockbusters. So what are our top ten Tom Cruise Films?

Tough choice since there are a few we have missed out (Interview with a Vampire, Eyes Wide Shut, Minority Report, Collateral, Lions for Lambs, Vanilla Sky, War of the Worlds, Mission Impossible, Legend  etc. – many of whom were nominated for an Academy Award, but who cares about those right???) but for what it is worth, here’s our list.

10.Cocktail – Feel good eighties film with TC trying to make it big – who can forget the bartender poet or Elisabeth Shue’s conversation about luglebinders.

9. Born on the Forth of July – Biography of Ron Kovic, who was paralised in the Vietnam War who becomes a pro-human rights activist. Arguably could have been much higher in the list.

8. A Few Good Men – You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth! Did Jack Nicholson order the “Code Red” or didn’t he? Just brilliantly written court room drama.

7. Risky Business – Breakthrough film, about the rich kid who gets left alone by his parents with keys to the Porsche. Manages to trash the house while making money out of it. We chose this one on nostagla as much as anything else.

6. Top Gun – controversially should have been higher because of its box office success, in Tony Scott’s massive if not, very camp, movie. A young Meg Ryan in support who really went on to do nothing afterwards except be remembered for the word ‘Yes’, Sleepless in Seattle and a few other little films; Anthony Edwards who did things in hospitals; and Kelly McGillis who will remember this film as her career highlight.

5. The Firm – The lawyer who gets his big break and is accepted into ‘the firm’. When he finds out that everyone but him are corrupt, he gets trapped between the FBI, his wish not to lost his wife and a corroding Gene Hackman. Great Stuff and the usual John Grisham clever, if predictable, ending.

4. Jerry Maguire – great script, great cast, the sports agent who in 1 document manages to ruin his career.

3. Magnolia – The long haired Tony Robbins style guru. A bit part, but great work and more importantly a truly great film,, a must see.

2. The Color of Money – Follow up film to The Hustler with Paul Newman as Fast Eddie, who teaches hot-headed Tom Cruise how to become a hustler, and then makes a comeback himself. Great cast and as usual vintage box office performance.

1. Rain Main – winner of numerous academy awards, Dustin Hoffman is simply brilliant.
